The earth is indeed hard! Laws of the country may free the guilty and probably end up imprisoning the innocent. You have probably heard of this story from another source but let me narrate to you afresh. It is not actually a story but a real life occurrence that happened to Dr.Clement Munyao a highly learned Neurosurgeon currently a prisoner.

Munyao is among many Kenyans arrested and jailed for handling second hand phones from dubious sources. This trend has turned into a curse, imprisoning quite a number of innocent Kenyans who found themselves on the wrong side of the law.

In an interview with Munyao at the Kamiti Maximum prison, here is what he had to say: ”One month after i got the phone and gave it away to my daughter, I started receiving calls from unknown people who would hang up every time I picked. Little did i know that they were CID officers trailing me”

Clement Munyao was found guilty of Murder and was linked to the death of Moses Gituma, a senior official at the Central bank of Kenya. Mr Munyao was found guilty and in possession of a mobile phone stolen from the murder scene. Mr Munyao claimed to have bought the phone for his daughter from one of the hawkers in the city, not knowing that it actually belonged to a murdered person.

Munyao has found a new calling, saving the lives of fellow inmates at the Kamiti prison by treating them. He proved and produced certificates that shows he graduated from the University of Nairobi in 1980 with a Bachelors degree in Medicine and surgery. He later proceeded to pursue a masters in Human medicine and pathology from same university and a masters in forensic medicine from Scotland in 1991. Mr. Munyao claims to be one of the best in the field of medicine. For the 25 years he has operated patients at the Kenyatta national hospital, no death was reported. Mr.Munyao was however betrayed by his own employer who claimed that he was not a worker of the hospital at the said time.

In the year 2009, Munyao was sentenced to 30 years in jail but later appealed four years after the judgement. He later failed to prove his innocence and was sentenced to death by hang. The constitution however indicated that death sentences were to be abolished in the country and converted to life imprisonment.

Mr Munyao claimed to have bought be phone from a shamba boy in Gigiri, Nairobi but could not remember the identity of the seller. He and other four were accused of plotting and hiring hitmen to kill the business man who worked for the central bank of Kenya.
