'Alaa, Wameiba ata Condom!' Kenyans angered by the Emerging Kemsa Scandal

‘Alaa, Wameiba ata Condom!’ Kenyans angered by the Emerging KEMSA Scandal:  When president Uhuru Kenyatta confessed that close to 2 billion Shillings is stolen each day, I thought it was a mere joke! It turns out that his sentiments were true and valid. Corruption and embezzlements of funds has become the song of the day in Kenya. That aside, there is a new and emerging scandal at KEMSA. Over one million Condoms are missing and a number of drugs and mosquito nets.

Kenyans have come out in large numbers to condemn the emerging action. The supplies are suspected to have been stolen from the KEMSA go downs and resold to private chemists around the country. This is according to the Global fund, an organization that carries out audits within Kemsa. Over 910,000 mosquito nets and tuberculosis drugs worth over 10 million have gone missing. However, no suspect has been arrested or linked to the scandal as it is still a developing story.

It is not the first time Kemsa is finding itself in such trouble. Just last year, we heard of the COVID 19 billionaires, fake and unreal suppliers to Kemsa among many others. The management has also been accused of embezzlement of funds and inflation of money. Fake suppliers are currently demanding close to 2 billion shillings for goods not supplied. Where is our country heading to?

The office of the directorate of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji is still investigating the story of the COVID 19 billionaires. Additionally, the Ethics and anti-corruption commission of Kenya in 2020 found KEMSA guilty in the ”criminal’ behaviour of purchase of Covid 19 kits.

Kenyans have been asked to remain calm as the issue is being investigated. As of now, it still remains a mere allegation that needs the relevant bodies to chip in and investigate the situation.
